The different types
Active Euthanasia
- Purposely intervening to end ones life.
Passive Euthanasia-
Causing someone's death by withholding/withdrawing things necessary to live (NHS choice)
Voluntary Euthanasia- Is euthanasia performed with patients consent.
Involuntary Euthanasia- Euthanasia performed on a patient against there will.
Non- Voluntary Euthanasia- This is where the patient is unable to give there informed consent.
What euthanasia is and what it does
Euthanasia-
"mercy killing" "assisted suicide" painlessly putting one to death. Mostly wanted for incurable disease.
It takes a person who is suffering and puts them in a better place so they aren't in pain.
Euthanasia was first used in the 17th century by Francis Bacon. And then later on used by Jack Kevorkian
Assisted Suicide- suicide facilitated by another person. Especially a physician who organizes the logistics of the suicide by providing the necessary quantities of a poison
You may think of it as a horrible thing, but really it isn't.
It is not a horrible thing because it actually protects your self-hood and human dignity. How? Because " Preservation of life is, however, subject to the self-determined choice of person
It protects your rights and saves lives
You have the right to live and the right to a happy life. But with life comes death.
If you deny someone the right to die when they are suffering and hurting in life. You are then forcing them to live a life they hate.
I know what your thinking, it saves lives?? It may not seem like it but really it does.
A 2005 study of euthanasia in the Netherlands found 0.4% was not consented before it was legalized.
Another older study from 1991 shows that 0.8% was done without consent.
With these numbers it shows its saved lives since it provides a protected and regulated framework.
People say killing yourself you then have no dignity. But that isn't true. In order to die with dignity it is how you choose to go out.
It does not cause harm to others
It doesn't really affect you if you aren't close. And if it did would you want someone spending their last days on Earth in agony?
