Principles of Digital Photography 3
Depth of Field
Acceptable sharp focus in front of and behind point of focus
Great
Large area in front and behind appear sharp
Shallow
Little in front and behind
Moderate
Some detail in front and behind appears sharp
Controlling DOF
Greater the distance from the subject, greater the DOF
Smaller the aperture, greater the DOF
Shorter the focal length, greater the DOF
Sensitivity (ISO)
Higher ISO
More noise
Decreased tonal range
Less light needed to expose
Lower ISO
Lower the sensitivity to light
Finer the grain in the image
Flash
Shutter speed
Maximum - 1/250
Faster speeds
Opening occurs and doesn't allow the flash light to reach the sensor
Flash Sync Error
Dark band area where image didn't get exposed
Exposure Reciprocity
Double light intensity + Half exposure time = same exposure
As more light is allowed by one control, less light is allowed by the other
