Leberg & Firmin (2008)-Roles of inbreeding depression and purging in…
-
Slow rate of inbreeding (found in large population) purges genetic load more efficiently than rapid breeding
-
- duration of bottleneck influence purging
- lethal recessive can be purged with only a short period of inbreeding
- purging is more effective for short bottleneck
- if bottleneck is too frequent, then the population wont be able to gain its fitness back
- population size must be large after bottleneck in order to regain fitness before the next bottleneck
