(8th grade) Unit 5: Functions
5A
5A.1
Your X axis is your inputs, the Y axis is your outputs
The Domains (x) and your Ranges (y) are both expressed as a relation
The domain cannot repeat, but different domains can lead to the same range/output
5A.2
Example:
A function can be continuous or discrete
Continuous data is data that is measured, discrete is counted
5A.3
5A.3 is mostly representing functions in different ways and so there will be one example
Example:
5A.4
This unit involves finding the Rate of Change (RoC) and the initial value
Example (use this while looking at Student Notes: Analyze Graphs, Words, and Tables): At a shoe store if you sign up for their rewards card you get free points. For each shoe purchased you gain free points. Show the total points earned in function. Use the graph provided
5B
5B.1
A function is only non-linear if it does not have a constant RoC (rate of change)
Example:
If a function does not pass the VLT (vertical line test) then it is not a function. If a graph from the VLT is upward positive, if a graph is downward it is negative
5B.2
A qualitative graph is used to interpret data on a graph such as height, or weight overtime
Example:
Functions are FUN (pun intended)
THE DOMAIN CANNOT REPEAT!
