Summary
- Martin Luther King began his speech by referencing Abraham Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation.Dr. King then reminded his listeners that, despite Lincoln’s efforts 100 years prior, African Americans were still marginalized in society.
- Stated that when the Founding Fathers wrote the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution, they recognized that the right to life for every man, woman, and child is an essential right, alongside liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
- All the citizens of the United States must stand together and act with seriousness to repair the injustices being done to the African-American community.
- The cost of justice should not be violence and hatred. Dr. King continued the speech with his dream for America, that every person in the United States would truly understand and live out these words of the Declaration of Independence: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal.”
Dr. King’s dream was that the descendants of those who had been slaves and slave owners would be together like brothers, that people would someday be judged by their characters, not the color of their skin, and that all people would be free

I. Introduction
A. Purpose
To inform the audience that Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. had a dream just as we all have. To inform the audience that he had a dream that one day his four children could grow up and not be judged by the color of their skin as he has, but by their character.
II. Body
A. 1st Main point
Martin Luther King Jr. grew up during the Civil rights movement and he experienced a segregated lifestyle.He struggled being an African American and having a
family. Yet he remained firm on what he believed.
B. 2nd Main point
Kings said, " I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where thjey will not be judged by the color of their skin but by their content of their character"
C. 3rd Main point
After he delivered his speech, he was the youngest man to win the Nobel Peace Prize. Everything appeared as if tables may be turning and a positive result may occur.
