Trench Warfare Tactics
Machine Gun
-
Machine guns were positioned in concrete nests a top the trenches, these gave the guns good tactical positioning as they were able to shoot anything that tried to make the dash across no mans land to the trench on the other side.
They were moved forward slowly like tanks, as they had to be mounted in order for them to fire fast.
-
Artillery
-
Both sides had to figure out where the enemies artillery guns were in order to destroy them so the infantry could pass with a reduced risk of death.
Creeping barrage tactics used, this was where they fired over the heads of the infantry so the enemy were confused and couldn't see where they were, this was used to advance the infantry stage by stage, though also came with lots of risks such as firing explosives at your own men.
Barbed Wire
Stacked up in sometimes 8 feet high towers, so they couldn't be jumped.

Tinned food
Though invented over 100 years earlier, canned food was first used prominently used in WW1 for the first time.
The tins were used to store food easily for a long time, meaning it could be transported easily and efficiently, taking up less room and lasting longer, it also meant meat and vegetables could be served to the soldiers.
Knowledge of germs
Urine was used as a disinfectant in the war when gas came over the top and began to kill people, they used to wee into their rags and breath it in.
Groups of soldiers also went for what was known as a 'chat', this was where they would scratch each other off, removing all the parasites and making themselves healthier.
Home-Front
German zeppelin attacks brought the whole country into the war, meaning that no one was safe, so more people helped to fight in the trenches, either by creating more weapons and luxuries for the soldiers, or just sending them letters every week.
Many people were also committed to helping the country if an attack came in from the air where the Germans landed.
