Macbeth: Act 1

They say that Banquo will be "lesser than Macbeth, and greater." ''Not so happy, yet much happier''. And his descendants will be kings, but he will not.
"lesser than Macbeth, and greater."
"Not so happy, yet much happier."
"Thou shalt get kings, though thou be none."
Macbeth is doubtful and changes his mind about the murder. Lady Macbeth verbally assaults him and insults his masculinity. Macbeth worries about what might happen if they fail.
"When you durst do it, then you were a man."
"...screw your courage to the sticking place, and we'll not fail.''

The witches appear again, with thunder, then Macbeth and Banquo enter the scene, and are horrified by the witches.
"A drum, a drum - Macbeth doth come."
"What are these, so withered, and so wild in their attire, that look not like th'inhabitants o'th' earth and yet are on 't?"
Lady Macbeth begins to plot a plan to make sure Macbeth becomes King. And she calls out to demons to help her be strong enough to have Duncan killed.

He mentions a brave captain - Macbeth, who helped when they were about to lose.

Macbeth demands more information, but the witches disappear.
"Stay, you imperfect speakers, tell me more..."
Macbeth and Banquo meet with King Duncan, who greets and praised Macbeth.

Macbeth arrives and says that Duncan is coming over, and Lady Macbeth decides that they shall kill him that night.

King Duncan enters, in high spirit, with his entourage. Lady Macbeth welcomes them and escorts them to see Macbeth and celebrate with a feast.

MacDonald is introduced - Thane of Cawdor who has betrayed his people. He has been defeated, but is still alive.
Duncan passes it to Macbeth, saying ''What he hath lost, noble Macbeth hath won.''
Ross and Angus enter the scene, and inform Macbeth that the King is pleased with his role in the war, and has decided to make him the Thane of Cawdor.

Duncan announces that his elder son, Malcolm, is made the Prince of Cumberland - the official heir to the throne.
Lady Macbeth receives a letter from Macbeth, which tells her about the strange witches their prophecy and how their revelation came true
