reverence for ancetors
society and gonverment had to change
to have peace and order
rulers had to govern wisely
work honest
fair government officials
teachings
peaceful society
people acted properly then society worked well
proper roles and relationships with others
five basic relationships
friend and friend
father and son
husband and wife
older sibling and younger sibling
ruler and subject
all people must respect those above them
those whom are older shall set a good example
be kind and honest
wise and faithful
do not do to others what you would not want done to you
influence of confucianism
some collected his sayings in a book
government workers were called civil servants
civil servants were the sons of nobles
they may or may not be able to do there job well
hired on ability of working well
know the proper behavior for people in various roles
from laborers to government official
had to pass an exam to prove there knowledge

heaven controlled human destiny
the king was the son of heaven
king rules well-heaven gives the right to rule
king rules bad heaven sends bad signs
floods
earthquakes
when heaven sent bad signs then others could overthrow him
feudalism
the king owned all the land
gave big pieces of land to lords
lords sent soldiers to fight if king was attaked
lords had power over all who worked on land
lords gave workers protection and workers gave lords crops
feudalism started to break
