Achilles Tendon Rupture
- loading activity, stop-and-go sports
Clinical Features
- pain or inability to plantar flex.- palpable gap.
- Thompson test: with patient prone, squeeze calf, normal response is plantar flexion.

Fracture
- occurs when falling on an inverted or everted foot.
- classification systems:
Danis-Weber,
Lauge-Hansen: based on foot’s position and motion relative to leg
Treatment
ORIF
indications: fracture-dislocation, most of type B,and all of typeC, talar tilt >10°, open fractures

Talar Fracture
- axial loading or hyperdorsiflexion.
- talar neck is most common fracture of talus
- high risk of AVN with displaced fractures

Bunions (Hallux Valgus)
- bony deformity characterized by medial displacement of first metatarsal and lateral deviation of hallux
- associated with poor-fitting footwear
- can be hereditary
- frequent in women
- pronation (rotation inward) of great toe.
- treatment:
indications: painful corn or bunion, overriding 2nd toe
osteotomy with realignment of 1st MTP joint (Chevron Procedure)
Calcaneal Fracture
- most common tarsal fracture.
- marked swelling, bruising on heel/sole
- varus heel
- CT:gold-standard
- loss of Bohler’s angle
- closed vs. open reduction is controversial
