After effects
After effects was used sparingly during our project due to the lack of special effects needed during our video. After effect is used to create special effects we used this in one scene at the end of our video to show the house burning and in some scenes near the end of our video to place embers over the top to show heat. The rest of the video editing would be done on premier as it is more suited to editing long videos while after effects is better at creating effects for smaller clips.
After effects was a new program for me so I had to learn most of the program from scratch although most of the program functions similarly to premier pro which I already had a decent amount of experience with.
Photoshop was used sparingly for our video but used solely to create our digipack and posters. Photoshop is used mainly to edit images. For our digipack we learnt a new technique called double exposure, which is where you blend a background image (in our case a bonfire) with someones face in order to place the image inside the face. We used this a few times on our digipack along with some purple colors to make the base for the rest of our digipack. For my poster I created an effect which looked like parts of the poster had been burnt off, i achieved this effect by using mask blending to remove parts of the image and various brushes to make the hole left behind look burnt out.
Premier pro was the central program throughout our project as it was used the most out off all the programs we ended up using.Premier pro is really good for putting videos together and performing adjustments to the clips such as color grading and transition effects. One of the more advanced effects we created on premier was a smooth zoom which showed characters a different distances before transitioning into a band scene, this effect would not be possible without the use of premier pro meaning the program brought up the quality of our video. We also did all of our color grading in premier pro which is where you alter the color of a video, we did this to make sure all our footage fit in with each other to make the video look smoother, this process is made easier in premier pro using Lumetri Color.
Bluetooth speaker
We used a Bluetooth speaker during filming in portions where we needed to either play along to the music, as seen in the band performance sections, and to film lip syncing.
Youtube
YouTube was used at many points during the project, mainly in research and construction. During construction YouTube found two main uses, the first was as a platform to upload our drafts and final product, we decided to use YouTube for this as it is easy to access meaning we could show anyone our video to get feedback easily, and because the way we encoded our videos made them playback better on the YouTube player allowing for high quality playback.
The second use was to find tutorials on creating specific effects we wanted to use for our video, we decided to use YouTube for this task as it has the largest user-base of all video streaming sites allowing for a better variety of videos to choose from.
Blogger
Blogger has been used throughout the project in order to create posts showing off our work. Most blogging sites have the same features which means it didn't really matter which site we used to host our blog. Blogging sites have a great feature which is embedding from other sites which makes it easy to show content that we have created or uploaded to other sites such as videos from YouTube or presentations from prezi.
social media
We used two social media platforms, Instagram and twitter, in order to advertise our video and artist
Mac
As a group we had one mac to share which we used for editing our video and parts of our digipack. We decided to use the macs as they are the fastest computers available to us in school and had all of the software we needed pre-installed along with enough storage space to keep all our work. Although the macs were fast, if i had the choice i would have not used them as their user interface and keyboard are a pain and tend to slow me down when trying to work.
Cannon 700D
The main camera we used to film our footage was a Cannon 700D EOS camera, we decided to use this camera for many reasons such as that the camera could film in full HD with 50 frames a second, this was important as the higher resolution would make all of the footage we shot look better in general which would increase the quality of our video and because the increased frame rate would make editing things like slow-motion look better due to the increased frame rate.
Iphone
We used iphones throughout our video as either cameras in some areas where we needed more than one perspective but very rarely in other situations as our main camera offered much better video quality which would look vastly different compared to any iPhone footage. the main use the iphones found was being used to play our chosen song either out of its own speakers or out of our Bluetooth speaker in order to coordinate lip syncing and performances.
