Describing earths atmosphere
Atmosphere
is a thin layer of gases surrounding the Earth
It contains the oxygen, carbon dioxide and water necessary for life on Earth
It helps keep the temperature on Earth within range for organisms to survive
It helps protect living organisms from the Sun’s harmful rays
It protects Earth surface from meteors
mesosphere
Mesosphere It extends from 50 km to 85 km
Most meteors burn up in these layers instead of striking Earth
inosphere
Auroras is stunning displays of colored lights
It occurs when ions from the Sun strike air molecules, causing them to emit vivid colors of light
Between 60 km and 500 km Ionosphere’s ions reflect AM radio waves transmitted at ground level
They are most frequent in the spring and fall but are best seen when the winter skies are dark
It is the region within the Mesosphere and Thermosphere that contains Ions
Troposphere
It is the atmospheric layer closest to Earth’s surface
It extends from Earth’s surface to altitudes between 8 – 15 Km
The temperature decrease as we move away from Earth
Stratosphere
It is the atmospheric layer directly above the troposphere
It extends from 15 km to 50 km above Earth surface
The lower half of Stratosphere contains the greatest amount of Ozone layer
Ozone Layer is the area of the stratosphere with a high concentration of ozone
exosphere
it is the last last layer of atmosphere
