Inception: Spectatorship
Opening Scene
Music at the beginning.
Preferred (first viewing) - Music makes us expect action.
Preferred (second viewing) - This is the same music used later on to wake them up. Sound motif.
Negotiated - It could possibly contain horror due to the music.
Oppositional - This is overdramatic. Not interesting with this kind of music and no pictures/video.
Lack of establishing
shots, foreign language,
canted angles etc.
Preferred (first viewing) - Confused as to where we are and what is happening.
Preferred (second viewing) - These are old Saito's guards that took Cobb.
Oppositional - Making everything confusing and not telling us much information is stupid.
Aberrant - Cobb (Leonardo DiCaptio) comes from the sea so he could be Jake from Titanic finally finding land.

Dreams of Regret
-
Moments of regret.
Preferred (first viewing) - Why does he regret and want to change these memories? Why is he keeping them in his dreams?
Preferred (second viewing) - Why does he regret them?
Negotiated - He regrets that dream because he chose to run instead of stay with his kids.
Oppositional - Cobb keeps her down there locked and alive too easily, doesn't fit with the rest of the dreams.
Ending Scene
Repeat of
starting scene.
Preferred (first viewing) - Recognition that is is the same as the opening scene.
Preferred (second viewing) - Understanding that the film starts with the ending scene and then shows how we got there.
Negotiated - The second time we see this scene it hints that this could be Cobb & Saito's fate.
Oppositional - Starting and ending with the same scene is stupid.
