Hierachy
Determines employees that have authority make decisions
Chain of command
Helps determine how communication is used and how tasks are assigned. Workers that are higher assign tasks to workers at a lower level.
Delegation
When an employee with more authority gives a task to a sub ordinate, the employee who set the task is more responsible.
Span of control
Shows the number subordinates that are under the control of manager.

Flat structure.
Benefits.
Elevates employees sense of responsibility.
Removes excess layers of management.
Disadvantages
Fewer management positions.
Managers have wide span of control so it is harder to monitor workers.
Tall structure.
Benefits.
Has narrow span of control so easier to supervise workers.
Tall structures clear layer of responsibility.
Disadvantages
Communication takes longer.
More positions means business has to pay more salaries.

Developing clear aims and objectives.
Organising
Ensures employees are being used to potential.
Coordinating
Bringing various arts of the business together.
Commanding
Having the respect of the employees.
Controlling
Ensures goals are met.
Leadership styles
Autocratic
Leader makes all decisions and does not ask for input.
Democratic
Leader asks for input however still makes final decision.
Laissez Faire
Means let it be. Leaders let workers do jobs with little interference. Used in creative jobs.
