The Security Council
Under the Charter, the Security Council has the primary responsibility to maintain international peace and security.
-
In accordance with the Charter, all UN Members agree to accept and comply with the decisions of the Security Council.
This is the only UN body whose decisions Member States, in accordance with the Charter, are obliged to comply with.
When there is a problem, the Council's first step is to recommend that the parties reach an agreement through peaceful means
The security council may impose embargoes or economic sanctions, or authorize the use of force to enforce the mandates
The Security Council also recommends to the General Assembly the appointment of the Secretary General and the admission of new members of the UN. And, together with the General Assembly, elect the judges of the International Court of Justice.
Secretariat
-
-
The Secretariat is broadly organized into departments and offices by topic , with specialized divisions and units within each larger department.
-
The Secretariat performs many activities in a wide variety of areas, from servicing meetings to serving in peacekeeping operations. Much of the work of the Secretariat is reflected in documentation about the activities of the organization.
An organ's request for an activity or programme often includes a request for a report of the Secretary-General on the actions carried out to fulfill the mandate.
The Secretary-General may submit information within the proposed programme budget and the General Assembly resolution adopting the budget may not explicitly mention the name of the department or office.
General Assembly
The general assembly, was founded on 1945 in New York City
The General Assembly is empowered to make recommendations on the States on the international issues within its competence.
It is the representative, normative and deliberative body of the UN, and the only one that has universal representation, since its 193 Member States are represented.
They meet every year, in September, during the annual session. During its first days there is a general debate in which numerous Heads of State participate and speak.
It has also initiated political, economic, humanitarian, social and legal measures that have affected the lives of millions of people around the world.
