PRIMARY (idiopathic)
Usually begins with onset of ovulatory cycles, typically within first 2 yrs of menarche

SECONDARY
assoc with pelvic pathology, onset many years after menarche

MANAGE
Women have no other complaints but dysmen and who have no abnorm on abdo, pelvic, speculum examination

laparoscopy may be indicated if endo or pelvic inflam diseases is suspected or if standard med therapy has been ineffective

excessive menstrual pain - cramping lower abdo may radiate to lower back and legs assoc with GI symptoms or malaise
