It made a hard job more simpler
Less labor was needed
They were hiring less specialized people to work for the job

Increased slavery
Some cotton workers lost their jobs
Some industries were not doing so good because of how good the cotton industry was doing

Air pollution was increasing due to the fact that the engine had to burn wood or coal
caused people to get sick
It caused many animals to lose their homes
