It was introduced in 1979 after a huge increase in the Chinese population. The population doubled to 1 billion between 1950 and 1980.

From 2013 onwards, all families were allowed to have two children.

Average population density is 137 people per square kilometres. This is mainly due to the natural living conditions.

Different cultures

Mongols and Cossacks are inhabitants of the steppes. They're nomads who travel the lands with their horses, sheeps and cattle.
Tibetans: smallest group. They live in the south west. They are shepherds and farmers who follow Lamaism. They grow quickly because they don't stick to the government family rules. They stick to their traditions.
Language
The Chinese learn Standard Mandarin and they learn the Chinese script consisting of thousands of characters

The urbanisation rate is high because every day people from the country side move to the cities due to labour. This labour migration cannot be stopped
