CLUSTERS AND COMPETITION
Thinking about competition and strategy at the company level has been denominated by what goes on inside companies
-
What is a cluster?
Is a geographically proximate group of interconnected companies and associated institutions in a particular field, linked ny commonalities and complementarities.
The geographic scope of cluster can range from a single city or state to a country or even a network of neighboring countries.
Cluster caracteristics
Occur in many types of industries, in both larger and smaller fields, and even in some local businesses, such a restaurants, car dealers, and antique shops.
Consist of a combination of end-product, machinery, materials, and service industries, usually clasified in separate categories.
Cluster boundaries rarely conform to standard industrial classification systems, which fail to capture many important actors in competition as well as linkages across industries
