US Foreign relation Policy in the Trump administration
withdrawal from
the TPP
we could have withdrawn without an executive order
this was done to make a point
could have just not given the TPP to congress for ratification
showed that few to no new trade deals will be passed while trump is in office
Direct effects of our withdrawal from the TPP
marks shift to anti trade attitude in congress as well as executive branch
made
china
and other south east asian countries not like us
but we don't like china
but why did we withdraw in the first place?
because it was too similar to NAFTA
Trump has used prior acts of currency manipulation and negative affects of NAFTA as support for his trade policy
Re-negotiation of Nafta
Trump administration cites large trade deficit and loss of jobs that began to occur after signing of nafta
other candidates candidates have criticized NAFTA on the road to the whitehouse
Including Bill Clinton and Obama
most candidates will criticize these types of trade deals while campaigning then leave them alone once in office
however, trump is breaking this standard by continuing to criticize our trade policy and taking or threatening to take action against it
Trump doesn't like China
why don't we like china?
currency manipulation
Trump has repeatedly accused china of manipulating the value of their currency to take advantage of the us in trade, china has also been accused of this by the WTO in the past
relations with the middle east
this is the prince of Saudi Arabia
he and Donald are good friends
he and the country of Qatar are not good friends
but the US and Qatar are supposed to be good friends...
but you know who's also not friends with qatar?
THE UAE!
Therefore... the US and UAE are now good friends
who are also friends with putin
has been influenced more by personal relations between trump and the leaders of the region, as well as their ties with russia
my view/stance
trade specifically has had little impact on our relations with the middle east
trade has had a larger impact on our relations with china and SE asia
trump is using trade and threats of changing our policy in Taiwan to reprimand china for breaches in WTO policy
which is something we're not supposed to do according to theWTO
but other actions taken by trump have had diverse affects on different countries within the middle east
possibly caused unrest in Egypt surrounding their election
could cause other middle east countries to seek aid from Iran that were formerly US friendly
