Usefulness - Understand reasons for criminal behaviour, inventions to be put in place e.g. applications like dietary supplements, psychosurgery, medication
Reductionist - Assuming that genes/brain dysfunction is cause of criminality, ignores social factors
Socially sensitive - Suggests criminal aren't responsible for behaviour due to increased risk due to biological factors (implications for treatment/punishment)
Nature- Biological explanation of crime suggest a hereditary disposition towards criminality, HOWEVER research findings are not conclusive in terms of cause and effect and nurture clearly plays a role. (Removes responsibility from offender)
Deterministic - no free will, doesn't explain all crimes e.g. theft
Biased samples - Brunner (5 males), Dabbs - based on inmates, no comparison of prison testosterone to when crime committed,
Raine - cannot be drawn for correlational analysis
