Because they are weak acids, they enter the duodenum as lipohilic HA molecules.
Unionized NSAIDs diffuse into epithelial lining cells -> dissociate into acidic ionized state -> free H+ ions are trapped inside epithelial cells -> disruption of oxidative phosphorylation, ATP production, and cell integrity.
