- - - - Rather than move out himself or despair, Guyton vowed to do something about the problems that faced his neighborhood and his city.
        
        Guyton thought of his grandfather, a painter of houses and buildings who had lived on Heidelberg Street since 1947.
- - - - He wanted to make his city less empty.
        
        And so Guyton, now 62, set out with a paintbrush to help save his city.
- - - - But he did not stop with dots. Joined by his beloved grandfather, his wife and neighborhood children, Guyton scoured the streets of Detroit for junk left in vacant houses and lots, and carted the abandoned objects back to Heidelberg Street. Guyton amassed vast collections of all kinds of things: vacuum cleaners, televisions, telephones, shoes, dolls and stuffed animals.
