Fallacies:
errors in reasoning that invalidate the argument
Types of fallacies
Ad Hominem
: attacking a person instead of the issue
Ad populum:
emotional appeal that speaks positive or negative, concept than real issue on hand
Begging the claim:
the opinion to be proved is given as if it were already proved.
Circular argument:
restates the argument; than actually proving it
Either or Or:
reducing argument to only to side or choices
Genetic Fallacy:
argument that origins a person, idea, institute, or theory that determine character
Straw man:
opponents viewpoint and then attacking that hollow argument
Persuasive Techniques
Persuasive techniques:
are the strategies authors use to make their writing more convincing
Types of persuasive techniques
Appeal:
audience emotions, needs, or desires, to persuade them you are right
Evidence:
using statics, experts opinion, research finding, and anecdotal evidence to prove a point
Rhetorical question:
questions that does not expect an answer to be asked for effect only
Cause and effect:
arguing a thing that led to another
Connotation:
uses emotionally words to influence people
Analogy:
comparing one thing to another to prove a point
