Talkies Step 4: Talking Words
Objective: Develop imagery to used in expressive language
Talking 2 word sentences
Say a sentence, count the words
Put out 2 squares, saying each word as the square is put down.
Show a picture of the first word
Student puts picture on first square
Repeat with 2nd word
Turn cards over :red_flag:
Point and say the words
Student points and says the words
Student acts it out to further concretize
change one word and repeat
Talk 2 word sentences, student led
As above, but student "writes" the sentence
Make sure student picks the square and says the words
Talking 2 word sentences, with imagery
Start by omitting 2nd card
Touch the squares and say the words, imagining the 2nd word
Change the 2nd word by changing out the square
Advance to omitting both cards
Touch the square and say the words, ask the student to do it too
Keep changing squares and imagining the words
Prosody
Move squares up and down
Talking 4 to 7 word sentences
As above, but mix and match all parts of speech.
Use a mix of imagery and cards
Talking 3 word sentences, adjectives
Create a 2 word sentence with no cards
Explain that a structure word will be added
Put down a 3rd square, including structure card
Say the 3 words, touch the squares
Student touches squares and says the 3 words
Remove structure card
Ask the student to picture the sentence
Student can act it out or elaborate
Change one structure word at a time
Student can change a word at a time
Talking 3 word sentences, concepts
As above, using concept cards, then imagery
Talking 3 word sentences, adding articles and conjunctions
As above, but with articles and connector words
Go slowly. These words are more abstract. :warning:
Hand write out words if needed
