Symptoms associated with deficiency in omega-3 fatty acids within the body are serious and often detrimental to one's health. Fatigue, poor memory, dry skin, heart problems, mood swings, depression, aching muscles and joints, and poor circulation are all negative symptoms associated with lack in Omega-3 fatty acids. In 2009, the Harvard School of Public Health estimated low levels of omega-3 fatty acids in individuals is the 8th leading cause of death. Omega-3 fatty acid deficiency is responsible for 96, 000 deaths in the United States alone, according to statistics.
To avoid such symptoms, omega-3 fatty acids provide a healthy solution. Fatty acids can reduce risks associated with cardiac death and improve one’s blood lipid (cholesterol and triglyceride) levels. Omega-3 fatty acids have also been linked to reduce risks associated with coronary heart disease. Research shows that Omega-3 fatty acids reduce risk of arrhythmias (abnormal heartbeats), a lead cause for sudden death. Omega-3 fatty acids reduce triglyceride levels, atherosclerotic plaque, and lower blood pressure; however, excess amounts of omega-3 fatty acids can cause bleeding. Thus they should only be consumed under a physician's care when in high amounts. Omega 3 fatty acids have been linked to reduce inflammation and may help reduce the risks associated with heart disease and heart attacks.
