Quebec in the 1950's
Duplessius ruled Quebec with an iron arm. He tried to encourage the spirit of French Canadian Nationalism
Quebec was trying to indentify itself with its own traditions and values, segregating themselves from the rest of Canada. Did no believe in Communism.
Padlock Act passed in 1937 which was the act to protect the province against communistic propaganda. Later became invalid in 1957 by the SupremeCourt of Canada.
Quebec Economy
Encouraged American, British, and English Canadian investment into the Quebec Economy. As a result most Quebec industries and businesses were dominated by English speaking foreigners.

Growing Discontent
Pressure for reform such as Les Automatistes, a group ofquebecartists.
The Asbestos Strike of 1949 marked the beginning of a change in Quebec which led to the support for labour and democratic principles.
