What is light?


  • Light does not have volume or mass so it does not matter.

-Light is part of the electromagnetic spectrum.


-Light is energy that looks like it travels in a straight line but it actually travels in waves.


How do we see?


-Retina is connected to your nerves to the brain.


-Iris is the colored part of your eye.


  • Light, eyes, brain, and an object.

Diseases that Affects Eyes


  • Diabetes affects the eyes to create a fogginess that is called glaucoma. It is a white film around the eye.

Farsightedness is when things that are far are blurry so you need convex lenses. Nearsightedness is you can’t


-Blurry vision is called astigmatism.


Optical Illusions

-Mach Band illusion is when two colors together make a darker color. Used in x-rays.


-Eye and hand illusion works because the brain wants to focus on one object.


-It works by having the brain fill in missing spaces.


Polarized Sunglasses


  • If hold glasses together and one at 90 degrees the image goes dark.

-Sunglasses make the unpolarized light to polarized.


-Illegal for pilots to wear while flying because it darkens the polarized monitors.


What can light do?


  • Light can scatter off of paper because paper has tiny bumps.

-Light can reflect which means bounce.


-Light can bend (refraction), it is trying to go through an object.


Concave and Convex Lenses


-Convex lenses are more clear and concave are blurry.


-Concave and convex lenses are used for mirrors, telescopes, and microscopes.

-Concave lenses are bent inward and convex are outward.
