Force, Pressure, Moments
Levers
Levers have the ability to multiply force
It is a simple machine
Moments
A moment is the turning force around a pivot
force x perpendicular distance from the pivot
What is it?
Force(N) is mass (kg) x acceleration(m/s)
On earth the acceleration is 10 m/s
Principle of moments
Total clockwise moments = Total anticlockwise moments
Pressure
Force/Area
Measured in N/m2, Pa or N/cm 2
In designs high and low pressure
In liquids it acts in all directions and it increases with depth
Hydraulic systems
Speed and acceleration
Speed=distance/time
Acceleration is the process of an objects speed increasing
An object with no resultant force acting on it will continue to travel at a constant speed or remain stationary
An object with a resultant force acting on it, will accelerate
in the direction of the force
The greater the resultant force, the greater the acceleration
