Remote Communication - How things have been happening so far...
DO WE INVEST EQUALLY IN MEETINGS?
Difficult to find times when everyone is available
Meeting/consultation fatigue among colleagues?
I do more of the scheduling, chairing and suggestions for agenda
One of the partners rarely confirms they will attend and contributes less to meetings/Basecamp
Sharing pictures as part of intros had mixed results!
SOME POSITIVE SIGNS
People have good digital literacy
People are asking for meetings + checking when the next one is
Given our work context - 'remote' rather than in person makes complete sense
People happy to use Basecamp to suggest agenda items
People happy to use Basecamp to share docs after meeting
We have identified Zoom and Basecamp as communication tools that work for us
The meetings are pretty convenient
It does always feel amazing that we are able to chat from Nairobi, Manila, Dhaka and London
MEETINGS
Pack too much into agenda
Lack of organic conversation (where the 'magic' happens)
Boring?
Difficult to achieve same chemistry as face-to-face
Take longer to get started
TECHNOLOGY FRUSTRATIONS
Some people don't use camera
It doesn't always work!
Sometimes bandwidth doesn't allow camera
