Able to resist bugs
For farmers crops being eaten by bugs is a major problem if that is how you make your living, but with GMO you can save money on spray for your crops.
"Pesticide Resistance. One trait that has been successfully bred into GMO crops is resistance to pesticides. When a trait is bred into a crop making it resistant to one particular herbicide, that herbicide can be used with impunity against weeds while not affecting the primary crop"(Calmful living).

Claim: One thing that GMOs will help to address is the zika virus using self limiting mosquitoes to help thin the population of disease carrying mosquitoes.
Evidence: “The personal cost of mosquito-borne diseases such as dengue, Zika, chikungunya and yellow fever is high...The Oxitec solution provides a proven means of protecting people from Aedes aegypti and the diseases it spreads by reducing the population of Aedes aegypti mosquitoes” (Oxitec).
COUNTERCLAIM (Madi T.): Wouldn't this majorly effect the population of mosquitoes, thus disrupting the food chain?
A quote that I found to back this up would be, "By manipulating certain genes in the mosquitoes, scientists can cause the population to crash (or, in other words, die off), said Anthony James, a professor of microbiology and molecular genetics at the University of California, Irvine" (Zika GMO prevention)
Counterargument: Though this could potentially effect the population of mosquitoes, if it becomes to much of a problem scientists could remove the mosquitoes until the population grows again. They could also potentially add in normally bread mosquitoes to push the food chain back in the right direction.
Claim: Inserting genes could increase the naturally occurring toxins in plants that are dangerous to humans in higher amounts.
Eveindence: “Most plants produce substances that are toxic to humans...There is concern that inserting an exotic gene into a plant could cause it to produce toxins at higher levels that could be dangerous to humans” (GMO harmful effects).
COUNTER-CLAIM (Madi T.): Yes this could happen, but 0 people worldwide have been known to die from GMO's, so why would all of that change now?
Counterargument: While it is true that no one has died from GMOs yet, studies have shown that for those who do eat GMOs it leads to dangers regarding organ health and pregnancy.
