GMO-Finn Z.
Benefits :check:

“Genetic engineering can also make plants that resist harmful insects and diseases. Insects can destroy millions of crops each year. Insect damage costs millions of dollars and can cause starvation in some countries. Genetically engineering food could help feed the 800 million undernourished people in the world” (Should the U.S. Support...).
Most GMO's are proved by food administrations.
88 percent of corn is GMO, and this is because the FDA approved GMO corn.
“Genetic engineering offers a time-saving method for producing larger, higher-quality crops with less effort and expense” (Learn. Genetics).
GMO's provide better nourishing food, at a cheaper cost.
500,000 children have a vitamin a deficiency, which causes blindness.
Concerns :red_cross:
-
Might cause diseases because most of the GMOs are unknown, and are used in so many foods.
Eventually, bugs get used to evolve and the GMO's don't work.
GMOs may add dna that is not naturally with that species changing the natural life cycle.
This may cause allergic reactions, because of dna coming from different foods.
“Monsanto’s bug-killing corn is so widely used that the corn rootworm is developing a resistance, requiring the use of more pesticides after years of decline” (Newsela).
“GMOs are ingredients in 70 to 80 percent of America’s processed foods” (Newsela).
CLAIM: A claim for GMO's is that they are more nourishing and cheaper for people who can't afford healthy food because it is too expensive.
-
COUNTERCLAIM: Farmers in developing countries have to pay other high prices for fertilizers and pesticides used to grow these GM crops, meaning that only the price of the seed is lowered a small bit. This means that their crop yield will not increase because the crops cannot support themselves to grow!
COUNTERARGUMENT: You don't need pesticides in GMO crops, and the price of the fertilizers would be the same for non-GMO crops. Even if this only saves a little bit of money, and they can be just a little bit cheaper, many somebody can start buying fresh produce.
COUNTERCLAIM: A study by Harvard University in 2015 states that GM crop that is grown correctly and safely is perfectly fine and is just as safe as its unmodified counterpart. These common GMO* foods are safe, and no deaths have been documented after consuming GMO crop.
COUNTERARGUMENT: Actually, in a accidental event, a women ate a taco with a GMO taco shell, and she went into a coma from an allergic reaction. This may have been a mistake, but it still put somebody in a coma and GMO's caused that.
CLAIM: A claim against GMO's would be that we don't quite know effects on humans, and they are unlabeled which can cause allergic reactions to normal foods.
