The first wave is the first half of the 1800's. This is when the Irish came to escape the potato famine. Other Europeans came such as the Germans. All if these people had their own reasons for coming to the United States of America.

The second wave was in the second half of the 1800's. During 1865-1915 around 25 million immigrants arrived in the united states. They came for a couple reasons such as, there was political unrest, the farmland became smaller as the population grew, and they wanted religious freedom.
