BENEFITS
more efficient farmers
G.M.Os with things such as drought tolerance and insect resistance and other resistances allows for higher crop yields due to less crop destruction from things such as drought or bugs.
“ They make farmers more productive” (newsela).

BENEFITS CLAIM: G.M.Os can help the environment as well as the economy because several of the crops have a natural pesticide and drought resistance. These things make farmers more efficient which contributes to higher crop yields which can helps make the prices lower. Also, there are many different types of G.M.Os so they can be offered at a variety of price points which creates a higher cash flow to the government allowing them to spend more on making life better for the citizens
**COUNTER CLAIM Mrs. Lukins: Are the natural pesticides which are designed to kill bugs, possibly dangerous to humans.
COUNTER CLAIM: no they are not dangerous to humans because the poison is specially tailored to the pests that it is meant to kill
CITATION: poison is really just a question of different perspectives whats harmless to one species might kill another... B.T. crops produce a protein that is tailored to the specific design of the digestive track of certain insects; it's completely harmless for us. (are G.M.Os ...)
CITATION: "reflected in reports and statements from the National Academy of Sciences and other groups. Likewise, it's clear that GMOs have cut insecticide use... and made farmers more efficient" (Newsela)
CONCERNS CLAIM: Something that worries me about the future G.M.Os, is the fact that we may start funding research on G.M.Os that could be unsafe and harmful and that could put the economy at risk because people are not getting a return on their investment.
CITATION: "$200 million was invested in creating Flavr Savr, and almost non of the investment was able to be reclaimed...[also] funding [is] only given to tests which show positive results" (...ucsc.edu)
.
While funding may be expensive for research in the future, but, right now we have many effective G.M.Os that have made a large amount of money on example of this is Aquabounty salmon which made about 800000$ in Canada alone and it can be sold all around the world. Also the government could use some of the taxes collected from sales of other successful G.M.Os to help finance other G.M.Os that could help the world.
While that is one possibility what I am afraid of is that if the government will not fund the G.M.Os because like I said before only funding is only given to testing with good results.
