Ecological validity reduced because group membership was arbitrary and artificial contrived. different to how group membership occurs in real life (reduce mundane realism)

AIM: to test whether prejudice & discrimination can occur between groups WITHOUT the precense of any competition

FINDINGS
pps demonstrated clear in group positive bias (favourism) and discrimination towards out group (negative bias)
CONCLUSIONS
people develop prejudices even in absence of competition. simply the existence of a ingroup=positive bias and outgroup= negative bias
