Formative
This type of assessment allows the educator to track their students progress throughout a unit/ content area. Also this type of testing can range from different varieties and gives the teacher more freedom towards deciding how to assess their students.

Summative
This type of assessment revolves around seeing the mastery of content area for students. Summative assessments are usually at the end of a unit area to test students on their knowledge.

Interim/Benchmark
This type of assessment is used to determine student's specific levels of different content areas. It measures students on how where they are at based off their scores.

Performance
This type of assessment is where students must physically show their knowledge through tasks or other ways of demonstration.

Diagnostic
This type of assessment is primarily used prior to a new unit for teachers to understand what students do/ don't know about a certain topic. The information received from this type of assessment allows teachers to plan lessons accordingly.
