ALU (ARITHMETIC LOGIC UNIT)
It processes all the data inside the CPU
It handles arithmetic (mathematical) operations and logical operations
Arithmetic operations include: Addition, subtraction, multiplication and division
Logical operations: Comparison between numbers, letters and/or special characters
It manages how data is processed by the CPU
It manages how the CPU and other components communicate, for example communicating with a printer or USB
It executes all instructions provided by programs
It informs the ALU, IAS along with input and output devices how to respond to instructions from programs
The CPU is refereed to as the
Brains
, as well as processor
Its purpose is to process programs and data
Processes like calculating, sorting and searching take place in the CPU
CPU processes whatever is done on the computer like checking emails, playing games and doing homework
Where the CPU holds all the data and programs that it's currently using
You can think of it like the numbers typed into a calculator-- They are being stored inside the calculator while it processes the calculations
Often reffered to as the registers in the CPU
The CPU may also use this place to store the results of any processing it does
Examples are like TRUE, FALSE, >,< or =
