In 1833, Stephen Austin traveled to Mexico City on his countrymen's requests. In the meantime, VIce President Valentin Gomez Farias, was charged of trason for encouraging Texas to separate from Mexico and was imprisoned. When Austin got the Capital and relixed he would not achive his objective, he wrote a letter to his countrymen telling them to ignore the goverment abd to start organizing the municipalities; however, his letter was intercepted and Austin was imprisoned until1835, when Santa Anna released him.
