Reflection: I agree with this statement; however, I feel there are so many non-traditional ways of assessing students that are not considered in distance education. For example, instead of grading traditional discussion forum posts, have students create a wiki or a page on Wikipedia that elaborates on a theory, process, definition, etc. Then, have other students make edits and add additional information. Once complete, students will have a living document which they collaboratively created. Also, instead of making final exams a multiple choice format, opt to do a reflection paper or reflective PowerPoint presentation. Students could showcase the key points of the course and elaborate on their stance and opinion of various course objectives. The assessment here would for depth and quality of information vs. right and wrong answers.
