Figure 5-6 (Simonson, Smaldino, & Zvacek, 2014, p. 155) shows how online courses should use more media. According to the model, there are view sources many online courses use, but the goal should be to expand the pool to include more live audio and video, more discussions, more chats, more graphics, etc.
Reflection: I would agree with this figure and the goal it sets for online courses. Many online courses I have experienced feel very cookie-cutter, relying on only a couple of methods to communicate different ideas. Doing a discussion board every week and responding to two peers can get very old, and online courses should try to implement more and varied types of media.
