Causes
Renal failure:leads to 1,25 dihydroxycholecalciferol deficency

Vitamin D deficiency: common in people with dark skin, people that cover up their skin or people that have poor absorption
Liver Failure: means that there is reduced hydroxylation of Vitamin D to 25 hydroxycalciferol. It can also be caused by malabsorption of Vitamin d i.e. cirrhosis.
Tumor induced osteomalacia. This causes there to be an increased amount of phosphation fibroblast growth factor 23. Meaning there there is reduced PO4 3- as it is being excreted in the urine
