Evolution and natural selection
Evolution
The Theory of Evolution: All of today's species have evolved from simple life forms that first started to developed over three billion years ago.
Evidence for evolution
Fossils
Shows that some species are related to other species that went extinct
Anatomy
Species share the same features
Molecular Biology
DNA is similar in different species
Direct observation
Look similar
Natural selection
Is how an organism becomes better adapted to their habitat which makes them more likely to survive, therefore more likely to reproduce and have offspring with the same trait.
Speciation
Speciation occurs when two groups of the same species become so different due to natural selection that cannot reproduce with each other
Genetic mutation
Where the gene is changed, which causes a variant that is passed down through generation
This can be caused by:
Exposure to radiation
Viruses
Exposure to chemicals
