4 MAIN TYPES
ADDITION
The opposite of elimination reaction. In an addition reaction the components A and B are added to the carbon-carbon multiple bond and this is called addition reaction.
-
ELIMINATION
These involve the elimination or removal of the adjacent atoms. After these multiple bonds are formed and there is a release of small molecules as products.
-
REARRANGEMENT
The carbon skeleton of a molecule is rearranged to give a structural isomer of the original molecule.
-
SUBSTITUTION
One atom or a group of atoms is substituted by another atom or a group of atoms to form a new substance
-
3 OTHER TYPES
PERICYCLIC
The transition state of the molecule has a cyclic geometry, the reaction progresses in a concerted fashion, and the bond orbitals involved in the reaction overlap in a continuous cycle at the transition state.
