External hard disk
Advantages:
-Is portable
-Can be used as an emergency backup drive
-If used as a main drive can speed up the performance of a Mac
Disadvantages:
-Has the same data loss risks as internal drives
-Have no password
-Filing is difficult to set up
Description:

Fast access,
Can range from £50+,
High storage.
Hard disk
Description:
Can be edited,
Low robust,
Quick when sorted,
Can range from,
£50+,
High storage.
Advantages:
-More affordable than SSD
-Higher storage capacity than SSD
-Easier to buy in most stores
-Longer lifespan than SSD
Disadvantages:
-Slower than SSD
-High power consumption
-Creates noises that can become irritating while in operating
-Not as durable as SSD
-Bulkier
Magnetic tape
Description:
Can be edited,
Low robust,
Slow access,
A lot cheaper £10-40,
High to low range 100-800GB.
Advantages:
-Probably the cheapest per megabyte
-Can store large amount of data with 1 terabyte per tape
-Can be set up to do a backup overnight
Disadvantages:
-Serial access so it can be quite slow to access data
-Needs special equipment to read and write data to it
-The data can go corrupt if place near a magnet
SSD
Description:
Can be edited,
High robust ability when not mistreated,
Slower,
High to low range £10-200,
High to low range 1-500GB.
Advantages:
-Faster than HDD (Hard disk drives)
-Low power consumption
-More durable than HDD
-More compact that HDD
Disadvantages:
-More expensive than HDD
-Limited storage capacity
-Poor availability
-Shorter lifespan than HDD
CD-ROM
Description:
Cannot be edited,
Low robust,
Quick,
Cheap £5-20,
100-800MB.
Advantages:
-Small
-Portable
-Cheap to produce
-Most computer can read CDs. If there is no CD drive, a DVD drive can usually read them
-Fairly fast to access the data
-Quicker than magnetic tape
Disadvantages:
-Fairly fragile, easy to snap or scratch
-Smaller storage capacity than hard drive or DVD
-Slower to access data than the hard disk
CD-RW
Advantages:
-Small
-Portable
-Cheap to produce
-Most computer can read CDs. If there is no CD drive, a DVD drive can usually read them
-Fairly fast to access the data
-Quicker than magnetic tape
Disadvantages:

-Smaller storage capacity than hard drive or DVD

DVD

-Sound and picture quality is excellent making them ideal for storing films and music

-There is no single standard of dvd
-They can be easily scratched or damaged
