ARDS (Etiology (Non-cardiogenic Pulmonary Edema, Near drowing, Aspiration…
ARDS
-
Pathophysiology
Fluid accumulates in the interstitial Space, followed by alveolar flooding which impairs gas exchange and reduces lung compliance
Irritants such as aspiration releases inflammatory responses that inflames the lungs, reducing lung compliance
Near drowning episodes depletes surfactant in the alveoli, therefore increasing surface tension, which decreases compliance

Diagnostic Tests

Suction showing pink, frothy sputum

Respiratory Management
-
-
Mechanical Ventilation: Lung protective strategy Vt 6-4 mL/kg, High rate 18-20, high levels of PEEP but keep plat < 30
