Naval fleet.
Ships with greater storage capablilities will be able to send relief supplies to islands, afternaturalDisasters.

Nz will gain a stance in the pacific in case of any war
More interest for armed forces. Meaning increased recruitment.
Trade deals with Australia and US.
Ability to defend pacific, along with Australia.
Downsides
No longer a neutral state , will most likely be opposed by public
Will be target , possibly by NK nukes.
Will be required to break law of anti-nuclear
New Zealand could have received a destroyer from the US but declined due to this .
