Weathering and Erosion: An Intoduction
Is the process of rock's being worn away or denuded by force
Denudation is carried out by
Weathering
This is the simple break down of rocks that lie exposed to the weather
Two types
Mechanical weathering
Breaks up rocks into smaller pieces
Main agent (causes)
Frost
Sudden temperature changes
Plants and animals
Chemical weathering
Causes rock to dissolve or otherwise decompose
Caused by Rain
Erosion
Involves the breaking down of rock and the carrying away of rock particales
Caused by moving water, moving ice, and moving winds
Transport
Deposition
Materials that are carried away by the force of erosion are eventually dropped in other areas
