Buddhism
Buddhism is the fourth largest religion in the world, and is mainly practiced in southeast Asia, however many people from western cultures have also adopted these practice 488 million people practice this religion
Many Buddhist practices are aimed aimed at achieving clarity of mind. both mental and physical health and well being are important Buddhists strive to achieve a balance between mind and body. breathing, physical postures and mindfulness.
Beliefs
- some Buddhist believe that you will not become ill if you are spiritually focused person; cures can be obtained by changing the mind set using herbs.
- birth is a special time as conception is seen as beginning of life
- end of life practices are guided by having an alert mind and not being an excessive pain.
- Dietary practices involve abstaining from alcohol and drugs as they impair the clarity of the mind.

The focus of health and well being is spiritual because they believe that you will not become ill if you are spiritually focused this is saying that cures can be obtained by changing the mind set of the individual.
Peace and harmony is a big core belief as well because of there practice of meditation.
Hinduism

Hinduism is the worlds oldest religions and is practiced by 13 percent of the worlds population, most of whom live in India.
There is great variance within Hindu through and practice, and thus a delivery of perspectives on spiritually and physical health and well-being. Physical health and well-being is an essential part of Hinduism it is thought to be nurtured through Ayurveda.
Beliefs
- sickness and injury are thought to be caused by Karma
- vegetarianism is common and often non vegetarians avoid consuming beef and pork. fasting is also practiced as it is seen as purifying the body
- Birth control is acceptable, and there is preference for a son over daughter. many women continue to have children until they have a son.
- Artificial life support is discouraged as it interferes with karma
- treatment by medical practitioner of the same ex is preferred, and women will often look to their husbands for medical advice
the focus of health and well-being is physical because their belief is that if you become sick or injured it is the cause of Karma. They also have a belief of spiritual- activities involved helping in some one in need creates a sense of belonging
Islam

The Islamic faith is the second largest religion in the world over 1 billion believers. About 13% of Muslims live in Indonesia, 31% in South Asia, the largest population of Muslims in the world, 23% in the Middle East-North Africa, where it is the dominant religion and 15% in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Believers in Islamic faith all believe in one god Allah, and have a commitment to the five pillars of Islam.
- Bearing witness to the existence of god and the prophehtood of Muhammad
- Praying five times a day
- Giving alms to the poor
- Fasting during the month of Ramadan
- Performing a pilgrimage to mecca for those who are able
Beliefs
- for every illness there is a cure except aging or dying
- fasting during the daylight hours is practiced during Ramadan. Ramadan is a moth of intense prayer from dawn to dusk
- Male circumsision is encouraged but not enforced
- alcohol consumption is forbidden
the cosumprion of pork is forbidden
focus of health and well-being is Spiritual live a life that pleases Allah (sense of purpose)
Emotional- Ramadan enforces prayer 5 times a day and fasting during daylight (resilience)
Christianity

Christianity is the largest religion in the world there is an estimated of 2.2 billion people that are involved with this religion Christianity is practiced all over the world. It is the majority religion in much of the world, including North and South America, most of Europe, Australia, and sub-Saharan Africa, and a minority religion in large parts of Africa and Asia.
The christian faith encourages a person to take care of their health and well-being. the church teaches life and physical health and well-being are precious gifts from god. there are many christian denominations. Catholicism is the worlds largest christian denomination. the customs of restriction refer to Catholics
Beliefs
- there are no particular dietary restrictions , although catholics are encouraged to abstain from meaton fridays during lent. fasting is expected on ash wednesday and good friday.
- sexual activity is approved by god within marriage with the sole focus on procreation.contraception is forbidden
- baptism is very important especially for a baby experiencing poor health and administering the last rites (one of the sacraments) prior to death is very important
