Peter is an 8-year-old child in 2nd grade. He is non-verbal and has Autism. Peter enjoys coloring and drawing. If one of his peers has the color or tool he wants, he becomes frustrated and has a tantrum because he is not able to communicate what he wants. In order to obtain the utensil he wants, he takes the item from his peers without asking. His peers will yell when he takes their things, causing Peter to try to run away because he does not like loud noises. These events cause disruption in the classroom. Additionally, Peter's peers do not enjoy playing with him. This puts Peter at risk for isolation, decreased quality of social participation, and ineffective communication skills.
