Major Religions- Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, and Buddhism. 77% of the world's population follows those. 6% of the world practices folk religion. 1% of the world 16% of the world says they do not adhere to any religion.
The 3 universalizing religions are Christianity, Islam, and Buddhism. Christianity is the most widely practiced in the western hemisphere.

Mahayana, Vajrayana, Theravada are the three main branches of Buddhism
Islam
Sunni and Shiite, the two main branches of Islam, are based on a disagreement on the line of succession from Muhammad.
Muslim populations are very large in South Asia and Indonesia. Islam means "Submission to the will of God" in Arabic. People who practice Islam are Muslim, which means "one who surrenders to God."
