Britain had overcrowded prisons, and the British colonies of convicts were soon established

New Zealand became a British colony in 1841.

It was first used as a base for whalers, but the mild climate proved suitable for farming and attracted British and Irish immigrants

brits came to India in early 1600`s to start trading valuable goods like tea, cotton, silk and spices. Gradually they took more control, and it became an official colony in 1858

In Africa, the slaves attracted the British traders.
